Hi! I’m Janne Bethke (pronounced yah-nay bay-t-kuh). I go by the pseudonym “gebratchef” or “gebratened”, which loosely translates to “fried (chef)“ in Deutsch.
I draw a lot of inspiration from the places I’ve called home: born and toddled in Bavaria, raised in the San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles, and currently very happily calling Seattle home.
My relationship with food has taken me through a lot of different roles. I’ve worked as a farm hand and household manager, spent time as a full-time culinary student, and now work as a prep cook, recipe tester, and private chef. I’ve been lucky enough to experience food at nearly every point from source to table, and I’ve genuinely loved every part of it.
That experience has also given me an immense amount of respect for the farmers and agricultural workers behind the ingredients I get to cook with every day. I believe really good food starts with ingredients that are already pretty incredible as they are, and I try to cook in a way that respects both them and the people who produced them.
I love creating food that feels thoughtful without feeling fussy—nutritious, environmentally conscious, delicious, and a little unexpected. Whether I’m cooking for a private event or helping keep a busy family fed for the week, my goal is to make food people are genuinely excited to eat.
If you’re looking for globally inspired, ethically sourced, creative, and approachable food, I’d love to cook for you.
